#11 pt.2 - NZ Green Building Council and Embodied Carbon Analysis

21.04.22

The bigger point is just encouraging people to think about carbon, and increasing carbon literacy among the general public. This message can be communicated in a range of ways, including through government procurement requirements, and Construction Industry Council (CIC) guidelines.Regulation is a good option that will obviously effect change, but this will take some time. In the meantime the message is “change is coming, so upskill now”.

Everyone needs to take responsibility for quantifying the impact of their decisions in the building design process on emissions; the scale of reductions required won’t happen if it’s left to one individual.

- Antonia Reid, Policy Director of the BfCC programme
