International Women's Day - Our Women in Architecture

06.03.20

Yiwen was first introduced to the world of architecture when she chanced upon an interior design book with beautiful watercolour illustrations of homes at a young age. She caught her first break when she was awarded a full scholarship to pursue a degree in Architecture from Victoria University of Wellington.

Born and raised in Malaysia, Yiwen sees architecture as a platform for raising awareness against society's stereotypes and bias. She hopes that her architectural process reflects her values and allows her the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with a diverse range of people from different walks of life.

Over the years, she has gained a broad range of experiences in residential, interior design, education, community and commercial sectors. She brings on board the same focus and tenacity to all her projects, regardless of scale.

These days, Yiwen balances her role as an architect and a mother to two young children. Although at times a challenge, she is grateful for the flexible working arrangement at Tennent Brown Architects, the support of her family, and her past and present mentors.
