LBC I20 Education & Inspiration

15.10.26

The intent of this Imperative is to provide educational materials about the operation and performance of the project to the occupants and the public in order to share successful solutions and catalyse broader change.

Education and inspiration form integral components of the Pā Reo project, as it serves as a beacon for community engagement and learning within the Living Building Challenge framework.

Open Days held in 2023 and 2024 provided a platform for the broader community to explore Te Wānanga o Raukawa, Pā Reo, and the principles of the Living Building Challenge.

Guided tours and presentations by Tennent Brown Architects and Te Wānanga o Raukawa were pivotal in sharing insights and fostering awareness annually through the Te Wānanga o Raukawa Open Days for prospective students.

Regular collaborative presentations during construction engaged consultants, contractors, and subcontractors, showcasing cultural values and the 10 Guiding Kaupapa of Te Wānanga o Raukawa. By illuminating the unique aspects of Pā Reo and the Living Building Challenge, these sessions inspired a shift from conventional work environments towards sustainability and innovation.

As a centre of learning, Pā Reo serves as a living case study for Te Wānanga o Raukawa's educational programs while embodying the values of kaitiaki (guardianship) for both people and the land. Additionally, an Operations and Maintenance plan was provided to Te Wānanga o Raukawa, ensuring the long-term sustainability and success of Pā Reo as a model for holistic education, environmental stewardship, and community inspiration.
