Hunter Atrium

The Hunter Atrium serves as the main entrance for student enrolments at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington and provides an enclosed link between the Hunter and Robert Stout buildings. Main entry is through the southern zinc clad wind lobby/ portico. The form hovers, and is surrounded by light and views to the courtyard. The white hollowed out portico interior resembles an open ‘book,’ ‘cranium’ and ‘container of knowledge,’ with the final focal point being a keyhole window out to the courtyard, which illuminates this interior form.

As designed; 1350 tonnes of embodied carbon over modules A1-D cradle to cradle (a 29% reduction from calculated business as usual BAU)
